Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1506
Hadith 1506 records a man asking Ibn Umar whether Udhiyah is obligatory. Ibn Umar did not answer with a long debate. He said that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم performed the Udhiyah and so did the Muslims. When the question was repeated, he repeated the meaning again and asked if the man understood. For searchers looking for is qurbani wajib, udhiyah sunnah hadith, or Ibn Umar sacrifice hadith, the wording teaches us to notice the Prophet’s practice and the practice of the Muslims. The explanation should stay with that point and not add rulings beyond what the report itself says.
What we learn from this hadith
- Ibn Umar answered by pointing to the Prophet’s practice.
- The Muslims also performed Udhiyah.
- The repeated answer shows the importance of understanding the example given.
- The hadith focuses on practice rather than a long legal discussion.
