Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1526
This hadith about fulfilling a vow to obey Allah gives a balanced rule. Aishah narrated that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said whoever vows to obey Allah should obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah should not disobey Him. The teaching is very clear. A vow connected to obedience is treated seriously. But a vow connected to sin is not carried out. The hadith keeps both sides together, so it protects people from treating all vows the same way. It also reminds a person that Allah’s command is above personal promises. The added chain has a similar meaning, and Abu Isa graded the report hasan sahih. The explanation should stay with these two points: fulfill obedience, avoid disobedience.
What we learn from this hadith
- A vow to obey Allah should be fulfilled.
- A vow to disobey Allah should not be carried out.
- Obedience to Allah comes before a person’s personal promise.
- The hadith separates good vows from sinful vows.
