Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1814
This Hadith about taking two dates without permission teaches fairness when eating shared food. Ibn 'Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم prohibited taking two dates at a time until a person seeks permission from his companion. The lesson is simple and social. When people share dates, one person should not take more than the normal share in a way that may reduce what others receive. The Hadith does not ban eating dates. It teaches manners when eating with others. Asking permission protects the feelings and rights of the companion. The wording shows that small acts at the table can matter. A person may think two dates are a small thing, but the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم taught care even in that small moment.
What we learn from this hadith
- A person should not take two dates at once from shared food without permission.
- Good eating manners include fairness with companions.
- Asking permission can protect another person's share and feelings.
