Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2644
This hadith about dying without shirk shows the great value of Tawhid. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said that Jibril came to him with glad tidings: whoever dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise. Abu Dharr asked a hard question: even if the person committed adultery and theft? The answer was yes. The hadith does not make sins small, because adultery and theft are still serious sins. But the text places clear weight on dying upon Tawhid and not committing shirk. The safest way to understand this hadith is to hold both meanings together: sins are dangerous, and Tawhid is the foundation of salvation.
What we learn from this hadith
- Dying without shirk is given a very high place in this hadith.
