Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2766
This narration is searched as hadith about lying on back with one leg over another. Jabir narrated that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم prohibited a person, when lying on his back, from placing one foot on the other. The translation also mentions Ishtimal As-Samma and Al-Ihtiba in one garment, but the quoted wording in the Arabic focuses on the reclining posture. So the explanation should stay close to that: the hadith teaches care in how a person reclines. It is not a general discussion of sleep, rest, or the masjid. It points to a specific manner that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم told people not to do in this described situation.
What we learn from this hadith
- The hadith gives a prohibition about a specific reclining posture.
- The situation mentioned is lying on the back.
- The report teaches care in everyday manners.
- The text should not be stretched into unrelated posture rules.
