Salim narrated that : When He Intended To Undertake A Journey, Ibn `Umar Used To Say To A Person To “Come Close To Me So That I May Bid You Farewell As The Messenger Of Allah (ﷺ) Used To Bid Us Farewell.” Then He Would Say: “I Entrust To Allah Your Religion, And Your Trusts, And The Last Of Your Deeds (Astawdi`Ullāha Dīnaka Wa Amānataka Wa Khawātīma `Amalik).”

Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3443
This hadith explains the Sunnah farewell words used before a journey. Salim narrates that Ibn Umar would call a traveler close and say that he wanted to bid farewell as the Messenger of Allah used to bid farewell to them. He would then say that he entrusted the person's religion, trusts, and the endings of his deeds to Allah. The wording is close to another narration, with a focus on the final outcomes of one's actions. The hadith shows that the Companions kept the Prophet's manner of farewell alive. A travel goodbye, in this report, becomes a moment of prayer, care, and remembrance of Allah.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Companions preserved the Prophet's words of farewell.
- Travel is a fitting moment to ask Allah to guard faith and trusts.
- The dua includes concern for how a person's deeds end.
