Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 38
This hadith about going between the fingers in wudu is narrated from Laqit bin Sabirah through his son Asim. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said that when performing wudu, one should go between the fingers. The wording is direct and easy to apply. Wudu is not only washing the broad surface of the hand or foot; attention is given to the spaces between the fingers. The report after the narration mentions that people of knowledge acted on going between the toes in wudu, and it also records a view that both fingers and toes should be included. The main lesson is careful washing. Purification is done with attention, not in a rushed or careless way.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم instructed going between the fingers during wudu.
- The hadith points to careful washing, not only quick rinsing.
- The surrounding text connects this practice with the toes as well.
- The narration teaches attention to spaces that may be missed.
