51/32. Chapter:

Umra and Ruqba

أَعْمَرْتُهُ الدَّارَ فَهْيَ عُمْرَى جَعَلْتُهَا لَهُ {اسْتَعْمَرَكُمْ فِيهَا} جَعَلَكُمْ عُمَّارًا.If one says, “I give you the house as 'Umra,” one means, “I give it to you to live in as long as you are alive.”

Sahih BukhariHadith Number 2626

حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي النَّضْرُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ بَشِيرِ بْنِ نَهِيكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ الْعُمْرَى جَائِزَةٌ ‏"‏‏.‏ وَقَالَ عَطَاءٌ حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرٌ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَحْوَهُ‏.‏

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Umra is permissible." Ata said, "Jabir narrated the same to me from the Prophet."
