Sahih Bukhari 7053 — Patience With the Ruler
“After me you will see things which you will disapprove of.”
وَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زَيْدٍ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي عَلَى الْحَوْضِ».

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، عَنِ الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ أَبِي رَجَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " مَنْ كَرِهَ مِنْ أَمِيرِهِ شَيْئًا فَلْيَصْبِرْ، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنَ السُّلْطَانِ شِبْرًا مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً ".
Ibn 'Abbas Narrated from:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever disapproves of something done by his ruler then he should be patient, for whoever disobeys the ruler even a little (little = a span) will die as those who died in the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance. (i.e. as rebellious Sinners).

This Hadith about obeying the ruler gives a firm warning. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم says that whoever dislikes something from his ruler should be patient. The text then warns against disobeying the ruler even by a span, saying that such a person dies with a death like the people of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance. The explanation should stay within the words of the Hadith. It does not say the ruler’s disliked action is good. It says the response should be patience, not breaking away in rebellion.
