Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 1173b

This narration gives another chain for the report about tents being pitched for i'tikaf. It adds that 'A'isha, Hafsa, and Zainab pitched tents for i'tikaf. The meaning is tied to the previous report: the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم saw the tents, ordered his own tent removed, left that i'tikaf in Ramadan, and later observed i'tikaf in Shawwal. This version is useful because it preserves the names mentioned in some chains. It should not be turned into a broad claim beyond the text. For search terms like “Aisha Hafsa Zainab i'tikaf tents,” the direct teaching is that this event was reported with named wives of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in the chain's wording.

What we learn from this hadith

  • This narration names the wives connected to the tents in the report.
  • It supports the same i'tikaf event reported through another chain.
  • The explanation should stay with the transmitted wording and not guess hidden motives.
