وَحَدَّثَنَا هُرَيْمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى الأَسَدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَذْكُرُ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ . وَاقْتَصَّ الْحَدِيثَ . وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ سَعْدَ بْنَ مُعَاذٍ وَزَادَ فَكُنَّا نَرَاهُ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِنَا رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ .

This hadith is narrated on the authority of Anas by another chain of transmitters in which there is no mention of Sa'd b. Mu'adh, but the following words are there: We observed a man, one of the dwellers of Paradise, walking about amongst us.

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 119d
This narration gives another chain for the same event and adds a moving line: the Companions saw a man from the people of Paradise walking among them. That man was Thabit ibn Qais, who had feared for himself after the verse about raising voices above the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. The Hadith balances fear and hope. Thabit feared that his loud voice had placed him in danger, but the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم gave him glad tidings. The wording teaches that believers should respect the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, care about their deeds, and not dismiss spiritual warnings. At the same time, Allah may honor a person whose heart is filled with sincere fear and respect.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Companions valued the Prophet’s صلى الله عليه وسلم glad tidings about Thabit.
- Sincere fear for one’s deeds can be a sign of a living heart.
- Respect for the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is a serious part of faith.
- Hope remains after fear when Allah and His Messenger give reassurance.
