Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 2597a
This hadith about cursing gives a short but strong standard for a truthful believer. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said that it does not seem proper for a Siddiq to be an invoker of curse. A Siddiq is known for truthfulness and uprightness, so the hadith connects character with speech. The point is not only that cursing is bad; it is that such a habit does not fit the character of someone devoted to truth. This hadith on the tongue in Islam is easy to apply. A person may feel angry, hurt, or annoyed, but becoming known as someone who curses does not match the manners praised in this report.
What we learn from this hadith
- A truthful believer should not be known for cursing.
- Good character includes clean and careful speech.
- Cursing does not fit the conduct of a Siddiq.
- The tongue reflects a person's inner manners.
