Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 3655
In this hadith, a man asks the Messenger of Allah whether his deceased mother will benefit if he gives charity on her behalf. The Prophet answers, “Yes.” The man then says that he owns a garden and asks the Prophet to witness that he has given it in charity for her. The narration moves from a question to a clear act. It shows charity on behalf of a deceased mother and the donation of a specific property. The man does not merely promise to do something later. He identifies his garden and makes his declaration. The hadith also shows his care in asking the Prophet to bear witness. Its main teaching stays simple: the Prophet confirmed benefit for the mother, and the son dedicated his garden as charity on her behalf.
What we learn from this hadith
- Charity may benefit a deceased mother, as stated in the hadith.
- A person may dedicate owned property, such as a garden, on a parent’s behalf.
- Make charitable commitments clear rather than vague.
- The man asked the Prophet to witness his declaration of charity.
