Jabir bin Zaid Narrated from:
Ibn 'Abbas said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), Abu Bakr and 'Umar were among the Muhajirin (emigrants), because they forsook (hajaru) the idolators, and some of the Ansar were Muhajirun because Al-Madinah was a land of shirk, and they came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the Night of Al-'Aqabah.'

Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 4166
In this report, Ibn Abbas explains who was counted among the Muhajirun. He names the Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr, and Umar because they left the idolaters. He also says that some of the Ansar were Muhajirun. The reason given is that Madinah was then a land of shirk, and they came to the Messenger of Allah on the Night of Al-Aqabah. This Hadith about the Muhajirun and Ansar uses the act of leaving a setting of shirk and coming to the Prophet as the basis for that description. It also shows that the term Muhajirun, in this report, was not limited only to the better-known emigrants named first.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet, Abu Bakr, and Umar are described as Muhajirun because they left the idolaters.
- Some of the Ansar are also described as Muhajirun in this report.
- The stated reason is their departure from a land of shirk to meet the Messenger of Allah.
- The Night of Al-Aqabah is directly linked to the Ansar mentioned here.
