Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 5145
This hadith about men wearing gold and silk repeats the clear teaching reported from Ali bin Abi Talib. The Prophet SAW took silk in one hand and gold in the other, then said that these two are forbidden for the males of his Ummah. The wording leaves little room for treating the matter as only personal taste. It is a direct prophetic statement about what Muslim men should avoid in dress and adornment. The hadith also shows a simple teaching method. The Prophet SAW did not give a long speech here. He showed the two items and named the rule connected to them.
What we learn from this hadith
- Gold and silk are both named in the Prophet's statement.
- The prohibition in this report is directed at males of the Ummah.
- The Prophet SAW taught with a clear visual sign.
- Personal style should be guided by prophetic limits.
