Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1014
This hadith about walking to the funeral and riding back gives a short but useful detail. Jabir bin Samurah narrated that the Prophet followed the funeral of Ibn Ad-Dahdah while walking, then returned on horseback. The text separates two moments: following the funeral and returning afterward. He walked while following the funeral, and he rode on the way back. This matters because funeral procession hadiths can mention walking, riding, or returning by mount. The safest reading is to stay close to the wording. This narration teaches that the Prophet attended the funeral and that the mode of travel differed between going with it and coming back.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet followed this funeral while walking.
- He returned after the funeral on horseback.
- The report distinguishes attending the funeral from returning afterward.
- Funeral narrations should be understood with attention to timing.
