Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1272
This hadith about surplus water gives a clear warning: do not withhold extra water so that pasture is prevented. The wording shows that water can control access to grazing land. If a person blocks water, animals and their owners may also be blocked from pasture. The hadith is short, but it teaches a strong market and community ethic. Extra resources should not be used as a tool to harm others or cut them off from basic benefit. For search terms like surplus water hadith, pasture rights in Islam, and water rights in Islam, the main lesson is fair access. The report does not speak about every water contract; it speaks about withholding surplus water in a harmful way.
What we learn from this hadith
- Do not use surplus water to block others from pasture.
- Access to water can affect access to livelihood.
- Extra resources should not become a tool for harm.
- Fair dealing includes how people handle shared needs.
