Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1988
This Hadith warns believers to beware of zann, meaning suspicion. The Prophet said that suspicion is the falsest of speech. The text focuses on the danger of assuming things about others and then treating those assumptions like facts. A person may think something without proof, speak about it, and harm someone’s honor. This Hadith about suspicion in Islam teaches care before judging people. It also reminds us that speech built on guesswork can be deeply false. The safe path is to avoid spreading suspicion and to be careful when thoughts about others arise. A Muslim should not let unproven assumptions become harmful words.
What we learn from this hadith
- Suspicion is strongly warned against in this Hadith.
- Unproven thoughts should not be treated as truth.
