Al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad Narrated from:
Two Of My Companions And I Went And Presented Ourselves To The Companions Of The Prophet (ﷺ), For Our Hearing And Sight Had Gone From Suffering (Hunger And Thirst). But There Was No One Who Would Accept Us. So We Went To The Prophet (ﷺ) And He Brought Us To His Family Where There Were Three Goats. The Prophet (ﷺ) Said: 'Milk These.' We Milked Them, And Each Person Drank His Share, And We Put Aside A Share For The Messenger Of Allah (ﷺ).The Messenger Of Allah (ﷺ) Came During The Night And Gave The Salam Such That It Would Not Wake The Sleeping Person, And The One Who Was Awake Could Hear It. Then He Went To The Masjid To Per Form Salat. Then He Went For His Drink And Drank It.

Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2719
This hadith about gentle salam at night shows the Prophet’s صلى الله عليه وسلم care for people’s rest. Al-Miqdad and two companions were suffering from hunger and thirst. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم brought them to his family, where there were three goats. They milked the goats, each person drank his share, and they saved a share for the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم. When the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم came at night, he gave salam in a way that did not wake the sleeping person but allowed the awake person to hear it. Then he went to the masjid to pray, returned to his drink, and drank it. The hadith about salam etiquette teaches balance: greet with salam, but do it with care for the situation and people nearby.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم gave salam gently at night.
- His greeting did not wake the sleeping person.
- The awake person could still hear the salam.
- Salam should be given with care for people’s condition.
