Abu Hurairah Narrated from:

The Messenger Of Allah (ﷺ) Said: "When Allah Loves A Slave He Calls Jibra'Il, (Saying): 'Indeed I Love So-And-So, So Love Him.'" He Said: "So He Calls Out In The Heavens. Then Love For Him Descends Among The People Of The Earth. That Is As In The Saying Of Allah: Verily, Those Who Believe And Work Deeds Of Righteousness, The Most Gracious Will Grant Love For Them (19:96).And When Allah Hates A Slave He Calls Out To Jibra'Il, (Saying): 'Indeed I Hate So-And-So.' So He Calls Out In The Heavens. Then Hatred For Him Descends Upon The Earth.'"

Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3161

This hadith about Allah's love shows a beautiful link between faith, righteous deeds, and acceptance. The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said that when Allah loves a slave, He calls Jibra'il and tells him to love that person. Then Jibra'il calls out in the heavens, and love for that person descends among the people of the earth. The hadith connects this meaning to the verse that those who believe and do righteous deeds will be granted love by the Most Gracious. It also warns that Allah's hatred is not a small matter. The main lesson is simple: true honor comes from Allah, not from image, status, or praise from people.

What we learn from this hadith

  • Allah's love is a great honor for a believing slave.
  • Faith and righteous deeds are connected to love being placed for a person.
  • Real acceptance begins with Allah, then reaches others by His command.
  • A person should fear becoming hated by Allah because of wrongdoing.
