Abu Hurairah Narrated from:

The Messenger Of Allah (ﷺ) Said: "Ibrahim, Peace Be Upon Him, Did Not Lie About Anything At All - Except For Three:'Verily I Am Sick (37:89)'While He Was Not Sick. And His Saying About Sarah: 'She Is My Sister' And His Saying:'Nay, This One, The Biggest Of Them Did It (21:63).'"

Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3166

This hadith about Prophet Ibrahim mentions three specific statements. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said that Ibrahim, peace be upon him, did not lie about anything except three matters listed in the narration. The first is his saying, mentioned in the Qur'an, that he was sick, while he was not sick. The second is his statement about Sarah, saying that she was his sister. The third is his statement that the biggest of the idols had done it. The hadith should be explained carefully and only from the given text. Its main focus is not general speech or broad rulings, but the exact three examples named by the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

What we learn from this hadith

  • The hadith lists three specific statements connected to Ibrahim.
  • The explanation should not add extra stories beyond what the text gives.
  • Two of the statements are tied to Qur'anic verses mentioned in the narration.
  • The hadith shows the importance of preserving exact wording when discussing prophets.
