Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3190
This hadith explains the phrase about practicing evil in meetings. Umm Hani narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said they would throw pebbles at people of the land and mock them. The hadith is short, but its message is direct. Harm can happen in public gatherings through physical annoyance and through making fun of people. The text does not discuss every type of gathering, so the explanation should remain focused on the two actions mentioned: throwing pebbles and mockery. A gathering should not become a place where people are hurt, shamed, or treated as entertainment.
What we learn from this hadith
- Mocking people is described as an evil action in the text.
- Physical annoyance, even by throwing small things, is not harmless fun.
- Gatherings should not become places of ridicule.
- A believer should be careful with both hands and tongue.
