Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3209
This hadith about calling people by their fathers explains a change linked directly to the Qur'an. Ibn Umar said that they used to call Zaid bin Harithah by the name Zaid bin Muhammad. This continued until the Qur'an was revealed, saying to call them by their fathers, for that is more just according to Allah. The hadith is simple but important. It teaches that names and lineage should be treated with truth and fairness. The narration does not speak against kindness to someone who was cared for; rather, it focuses on the wording of identity and fatherhood after the verse came. People often search this as Zaid bin Harithah hadith, adoption in Islam hadith, and call them by their fathers hadith.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Companions changed their wording when the Qur'an gave a new command.
- Lineage should be named truthfully according to the father.
- Zaid was once called Zaid bin Muhammad before the verse was revealed.
- Justice in names is linked to obedience to Allah’s guidance.
