Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3267
This hadith about praise and blame belonging to Allah is linked to the ayah about those who called the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم from behind the dwellings. A man stood and said, “Indeed my praise is worthwhile and my censure is appropriate.” The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم replied, “That is for Allah, the Mighty and Sublime.” The message is simple and humbling. No person owns final worth, honor, or disgrace. A person’s praise may feel pleasing, and a person’s criticism may feel painful, but the true weight belongs to Allah. The hadith teaches us not to overrate our own words about people. It also reminds us that human judgment is limited, while Allah’s judgment is the one that truly matters.
What we learn from this hadith
- Final praise and blame belong to Allah, not people.
- A believer should not think too highly of his own judgment.
- Human approval is limited and should not replace Allah’s judgment.
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم corrected the man with a short and clear answer.
