Jami at-TirmidhiHadith Number 51

Abu Hurairah narrated that : Allah'S Messenger Said: "Shall I Tell You That For Which Allah Will Wipe Out Your Sins, And Raise Your Ranks?" They Said, "Of Course Allah'S Messenger!" He Said: "Performing Wudu Well In Difficulty, And Taking Many Steps To The Masajid, And Waiting For Salat After Salat, That Is The Ribat."

Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 51

This hadith about wudu in difficulty gives three actions linked to wiping out sins and raising ranks: performing wudu well when it is hard, taking many steps to the masajid, and waiting for salat after salat. The Prophet then says, "That is the Ribat." The teaching is direct and practical. Worship is not only the prayer itself; the care before prayer and the effort to reach prayer also matter. The phrase performing wudu well in difficulty points to doing purification properly even when it is cold, tiring, or not easy. The hadith also values steady attachment to the masjid and to the next prayer. It turns ordinary steps and waiting time into acts with meaning.

What we learn from this hadith

  • Performing wudu well in difficulty is praised in the text.
  • Walking to the masajid is mentioned as a means of reward.
  • Waiting for the next prayer after prayer is called ribat.
