حَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِي زُمْرَةٌ هُمْ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفًا تُضِيءُ وُجُوهُهُمْ إِضَاءَةَ الْقَمَرِ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ " . قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فَقَامَ عُكَّاشَةُ بْنُ مِحْصَنٍ الأَسَدِيُّ يَرْفَعُ نَمِرَةً عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ مِنْهُمْ " ثُمَّ قَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " سَبَقَكَ بِهَا عُكَّاشَةُ " .
Abu Hurairah Narrated from:
I heard it from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: A group of my Ummah consisting of seventy thousand persons would enter Paradise; their faces would be as bright as the brightness of the full moon. Abd Huraira said: 'Ukkasha b. Mihsan al-Asadi then stood up wrapping the blanket around him and said: Messenger of Allah, supplicate (before) Allah that He should make me one among them.Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: O Allah, make him among them. Then stood up a man from the Ansa and said: Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah that He should make me one among them. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Ukkasha has preceded you in this matter.

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 216c
This hadith about seventy thousand entering Paradise gives a beautiful description. Abu Huraira reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) say that a group from his Ummah, numbering seventy thousand, would enter Paradise and their faces would shine like the full moon. Ukkasha b. Mihsan then stood and asked the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) to pray that Allah make him among them. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) made that dua for him. Then a man from the Ansar asked for the same, and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) replied that Ukkasha had preceded him. The hadith focuses on the honor of this group, the brightness of their faces, and the Prophet’s supplication for Ukkasha.
What we learn from this hadith
- Seventy thousand from the Ummah are described with faces bright like the full moon.
- Ukkasha asked the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) for supplication and received it.
- The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ended the second request by saying Ukkasha had preceded him.
