Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2986
This hadith explains a change in the way people behaved during salah. Zaid bin Arqam said that during the time of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم, they used to talk during prayer. Then the verse, "And stand before Allah with obedience," was revealed. After that, they were ordered to be silent. Another chain adds that they were forbidden from talking. The main lesson is clear: prayer is a time of focused obedience before Allah. The hadith about silence in salah does not speak about casual quietness only; it connects silence to the command of standing before Allah. It teaches that speech inside prayer was restricted by revelation, and the companions followed that direction.
What we learn from this hadith
- Salah requires focused obedience before Allah.
- Talking during prayer was stopped after the command came.
- The companions changed their practice when the verse was revealed.
- Silence in prayer is linked here to respect and obedience.
