I Said: 'O Messenger Of Allah (ﷺ)! What Is The Worst Sin?' He Said: 'That You Make And Equal To Allah, While It Is He Who Created You.'" He Said: "I Said: 'Then What?' He Said: 'That You Kill Your Child Fearing That He Will Eat With You.'" He Said: "I Said: 'Then What?' He Said: 'That You Commit Adultery With Your Neighbors Wife.'"

Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3182
This hadith directly answers the question: what is the worst sin? The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) first named making an equal to Allah, even though Allah is the One who created the person. This makes shirk the first and gravest sin mentioned in the text. Then he named killing one's child out of fear that the child will share food. Then he named adultery with the neighbor's wife. The wording is direct and serious. It teaches that faith, life, family trust, and neighborly rights are not small matters. The hadith does not list every sin, but it highlights these three as deeply harmful acts.
What we learn from this hadith
- Shirk is named first because Allah alone created and deserves worship.
- Fear of provision must not lead a person to take innocent life.
- Betraying a neighbor through adultery is treated as a grave wrong.
- A Muslim should protect faith, life, family honor, and neighborly trust.
