Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 46
This narration focuses on wudu one time each. Thabit bin Abi Safiyyah asked Abu Ja'far whether Jabir had narrated that the Prophet performed wudu once for each limb, and Abu Ja'far said yes. The passage then gives a hadith study note from Abu Eisa: this version from Waki is more correct than the narration of Sharik, because it was reported from more than one route in a similar wording. It also says Sharik made many mistakes. So this hadith is useful not only for the topic of wudu, but also for learning how scholars compared reports. The teaching should stay limited: this version confirms the one-time wudu wording as the stronger report here.
What we learn from this hadith
- This version reports the Prophet performing wudu once for each limb.
- The passage shows that scholars compared different wordings carefully.
- A stronger chain or wording should be preferred when reports differ.
