It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Zurair Al-Ghafiqi said: "I heard 'Ali say: 'The Messenger of Allah [SAW] took some gold in his right hand and some silk in his left hand and said: This is forbidden for the males of my Ummah.'"

Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 5147
This hadith about gold forbidden for males comes through Abdullah bin Zurair Al-Ghafiqi from Ali. The Prophet SAW took gold in his right hand and silk in his left hand, then said that this is forbidden for the males of his Ummah. The order of the hands differs from some nearby reports, but the message given in the translation is the same: gold and silk are not for male adornment in this ruling. The teaching is direct, easy to remember, and tied to the Prophet's own words. A Muslim man does not need a long debate to understand the basic warning here. The report calls him to choose clothing and adornment with obedience in mind.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet SAW named gold and silk while giving the ruling.
- The prohibition in the text is for the males of the Ummah.
- The hadith gives a short rule that is easy to remember.
- Adornment choices should be shaped by obedience to the Prophet SAW.
